About the Artist
Gwendolyn Briley-Strand has been delighting audiences on stage, radio, television and in movie theatres for over thirty years. She is a member of SAG-AFTRA, & Actor’s Equity Association (AEA). Her television and movie credits are extensive. Her commercial voice overs can be heard on Network and Cable stations. The PSAs she filmed for Substance and Child Abuse received a Emmy, the film “Atif’s Journey” where she appears as Atif’s mother received the 1997 Cable Ace Award for the Best Educational Program Series for the health education of the children of Prince George’s County Public Schools.
Gwendolyn Briley-Strand is the founder, and CEO of See The Fruits Inc., a company which uses the arts to teach American History. In 2003 ITVA-DC (Washington D.C. Chapter of the Media Communications Association) awarded Ms. Briley-Strand and See The Fruits Inc., the 2003 Peer Award for Independent Feature for her video of Harriet Tubman: The Chosen One. In 2011 ITVA-DC awarded Ms. Briley-Strand the Peer GOLD for her narration in “Marian Anderson: A Song Of Dignity and Grace“.
Ms. Briley-Strand has been touring her one-woman show “Harriet Tubman: The Chosen One“, since 1993. It has been presented for hundreds of schools, and organizations nationally and internationally, the JFK Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC, The Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington DC, The New York State Museum in Albany NY just to name a few. In 1991 and 1992 Ms. Briley-Strand was invited to bring the character of Harriet Tubman to the White House for the 4th of July celebration.

“Harriet Tubman – The Chosen One” is a dynamic one-woman show that takes its audience on one of the many journeys Ms. Tubman took on the Underground Railroad. The show celebrates the life of this great American who made her way to freedom, and then risked her freedom to free others. Watch Ms. Briley-Strand, change into more than a dozen characters, right before your eyes. See for yourself the people who helped her along the path to freedom… and the ones who tried to stop her in her tracks. Listen as she sings spiritual after spiritual showing how the enslaved used this “secret language” to communicate with one another.
