About the Artist

The Game is an interactive, conceptual sculpture created by Bridgeport Gallery 1212’s Gerald Moore. Students “play” with The Game, and then are able to express interactively what they perceive they have created, how their creation inspires thoughts of diversity and unity, as well as possibility. The Game is central to a series of workshops based on a growing body of research that values ‘play’ as an ideal context for learning and overall human development. Gerald Moore is an artist and educator with a Masters in Education from the University of Bridgeport.

The Game Workshop (Grades 4-8) Maximum 30

Using acrylic shapes your student will build individually and in teams representative sculptures that require them to “Be creative and play.” This workshop will inspire students in creative play and will encourage students to explore their own creativity. While exploring issues such as diversity and other topics tailored to your curriculum, students will be guided in their play by Gerald Moore. Length: 1 hour.

3D Writing Strategies: An Arts Integrated  Residency To Build Literacy

Descriptive essay writing can be daunting for many students especially those who struggle with communicating   ideas vividly and accurately.  Through the use of The Game, a group sculptural experience lead by artist, Gerald Moore, students begin the process of descriptive essay writing through 3 dimensional design.  The teaching team of the sculptor and class room teacher work together to help students form the habits of good descriptive writing.

In The Game, students work cooperatively to design and build structures that have a story to tell.   Students communicate with others in their team to develop the story as the building process begins and continues.  Details such as representation (what the sculpture represents),  texture, size, and tone become more apparent in 3D and students can access descriptive words to enhance their writing.
