About the Artist
Harpist Wendy Kerner was a scholarship student at The Juilliard School where she received her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees, and she has a busy schedule of performances which include many educational programs throughout the Northeast. Wendy is an adjunct Professor of Harp at Sacred Heart University, maintains an active teaching studio in Wilton, CT, and directs the Elyrica Summer Harp Ensemble Program, now in its twentieth year.
Storyteller Monica Peterson has entertained at the JFK Presidential Library, The Children’s Museum of the Arts in Manhattan, Connecticut DEEP Great Park Pursuit, Connecticut Storytelling Festival and at festivals, museums, libraries, schools, and senior centers throughout the area. As an educator, Monica worked in the Stamford Public School System for 15 years teaching gifted education, kindergarten, and fifth grade and earning the Stamford Public Schools’ Spotlight Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Board of Education’s Staff Achievement Award. Monica has also worked with the Stratford Public School System in the area of math remediation.
The Amazing Math Wizards (PK-3)
The Amazing Math Wizards will take young students on an exciting musical journey through Story Land where they explore numbers, addition, 2D and 3D shapes, relative position words, and even play a harp. Math skills based on Common Core Standards are taught with music, stories, animals, puppets and other fun props, along with lots of audience participation by internationally renowned harpist Wendy Kerner and professional educator and storyteller Monica Peterson. The participation in the program engages the students and teaches life skills such as cooperative problem solving, learning from mistakes, and experimentation. The Amazing Math Wizards entertain while helping to teach these important math concepts to young students!
